Introducing Many Tabs Open - A personal journey through interests

Welcome to Many Tabs Open, a blog where I’m documenting and tracking my personal progress across a range of interests including:

• Software engineering (my profession)
• Game development
• Music
• Photography
• Electronics

After many years of continuously cycling through interests I realized that it seems like every time I get back to a hobby or skill, it feels like I’m starting over again and I get frustrated at myself for going so long without working at it. I think this is partially due to a lack of documenting my progress. As an experiment, I’m starting this blog to keep track of my progress and create a collection of documentation from previous cycles that I can look back on when I return to an interest.

I wanted to make this journey public rather than creating private documentation for myself for a couple reasons. Firstly, I think when I know I’m the only person that will go back and read some notes I write, I tend to be pretty haphazard about how well they are written and filing them in the right place. When I think more people might find interest in what I’m writing, I’m going to put a bit more effort into making the result higher quality. I think forcing myself to write high quality updates will also better cement material into my brain. Additionally, I think other people with at least one of the same interests as me might find my writing useful in their own journey.
